Marco Fatichenti (English Biography)

Pianist Marco Fatichenti is an internationally acclaimed performer and recording artist who has appeared in some of the most prestigious venues across Europe, Asia, and the United States. At the same time, he continues to be a much sought after pedagogue for his kind, considerate and dynamic approach to teaching, committed to promoting music and its societal value amongst diverse audiences. He is now based in Tokyo, Japan, where he continues to perform both as recitalist and chamber musician, and where he founded the ‘International Piano Academy by MF’, recruiting and preparing talented pianists for their future in the musical profession.

He has received a Doctorate from King’s College London for his research on early-twentieth-century performance practices, with a particular interest in the historical recordings of E. Granados and in the aesthetic shifts taking place in Spain during the Civil War.

Described by Hilary Finch in The Times as ‘none other than Chopin incarnate’, he was hailed by the International Record Review for offering ‘a different and refreshing slant on Brahms from a vantage point south of the Alps’, and praised by International Piano for ‘marrying Romantic turbulence with Classical order’.

Marco’s performances have been broadcast by the Spanish RTVE, Irish RTE, Polskie Radio, and in several BBC appearances, while his three solo albums have been met with rave reviews.

Marco has been Head of the Piano Department at the London Performing Academy (LPMAM), before taking the title of Professor of Piano, has taught at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and in many higher education institutions in Europe: amongst others he was a visiting Professor at the Scuola di Musica di Sesto Fiorentino (Florence, Italy) and the Academia de Música e Artes, Vilanova de Famalicão (Porto, Portugal). He has also been invited to teach at the Chopin Birthday Concerts Festival in Warsaw, Poland.

Throughout his experience as a teacher, Marco has developed an approach that allows students to become more involved and proactive in the learning process. He likes to challenge with ideas and experiments, widening the arguments of the lesson to include history and analysis, but also discussions over the character of each piece; in this way, he aims to make pianists more enthusiastic about the lessons, as well as giving more material to work during practice. The resulting performances have therefore the potential to be more varied and entertaining for both performer and audience.
